• Hello and Welcome! I’m Ella and I’m something of an artistic, creative, curious and fanciful spirit. I love vintage doodads, cuddly animals, pink squirrels, embroidery, soft sculpture, stuffies, books, words, history, tacky tourist sites and a ton of other random, quirky things that make up my world.

WeekDay Wrap-Up 17: Just Being

Beatrix Potter GifI’m not quite sure how, but at some point between Tuesday and Wednesday we went from mild, chill weather to almost Summer warmth. Monday I was curled up in a cozy sweater coat (one of the best gifts I ever gave to Glory…’cause I get to borrow it all the time, tee-hee!) and today I am in light cotton shorts and open-toed sandals. No wonder my head has been swimmy!

Weird weather aside (sometimes I feel like I talk about the weather a bit too much, but I do truly find it to be a fascinating subject. I like to fancy myself something of an amateur meteorologist.) I’ve been keeping busy this week with all sorts of random happenings. First, my darling Jojo has been suffering from allergies something fierce but refuses to take medicine for it, so I do what I can to keep her comfortable (even if that means she ends up tearing my finger up trying to get away from me as I wipe down her fur…usually it’s okay but I caught her at a bad time, sigh).

JosieDearHow can I stay mad at that?!

This week also saw me starting a few new projects that I am planning on using for a new feature here on the blog. Just a tantalizing hint – it’ll have something to do with my Pinterest. I’m thinking this place could use a freshening-up and a slight make-over so stay tuned for news about that!

Now I’m off to clean up the house and maybe tackle my cloths – I want to get rid of a bunch, sort through and put away my Winter stuff and gather up and enjoy all my Summery cloths again.

WeekDay Wrap-Up 16: May Be

Vintage Rain Boots via EtsyAfter what has felt like weeks of nothing but rainy, mizzly, dreary, cool days the sun has come out and a soft sort of warmth is drifting upon the air. I didn’t really mind the weather, since it was cuddle-up, hug cats and dogs while reading a good book kind of weather and what better time, might I ask, could one come down with a flu bug?! I was never quite ill enough to warrant total bed-rest, but I did feel incredibly run-down, cranky, achy and icky. I’m still not 100% – more like a good 82% – but I am over the very worst of it.

So Much Word! I did manage to finish re-reading “The Crimson Petal and the White” – which I mentioned previously here. I’m half tempted to pick up a copy of “The Apple: Crimson Petal Stories” which is a collection of short stories that Michel Faber wrote as a sort of sequel to “Crimson Petal”, but first I want to finish reading these lovelies…

MyReadsOkay, so Emma doesn’t actually need reading, but I was thrilled to pieces when I scored a Penguin Threads copy and I just had to share, tee-hee! The other two books have been such fun to delve in and out of. I can be a very hard-core reader, getting so involved and immersed in my book that I can completely block the outside world (though I will have conversations that I have no recollection of while doing so, much to the annoyance of those around me) and having books that I can easily read a bit of here and there is a pleasant change.

DollhouseShoesIn gratuitous shoe photo news, I scored these darling dollhouse flats for next to nothing and I am loving them! Flats and I have not always gotten along since I have terribly wonky feet (slight birth-defect that I accept as just my feet being uniquely my own) but these have so far been comfy and cute (even if they do run a wee bit big – no matter). The bright pop of neon pink is what truly won me over – I am big into pops of color, the brighter, the better!

WeekDay Wrap-Up 7: Happiness

Happiness, while maybe not quite as easy as simply deciding to be in a good mood and therefore you are, is still a choice, and I have to say that I have been in a fairly splendid mood all week long. Sure, I’ve been feeling a touch under-the-weather (I think I’ve had a slight cold) and I have been beyond clumsy and ditzy (I’m beginning to think that ditz may just be a *ahem* charming character trait of mine) but on the whole I’ve been happy and it’s  been awhile since I felt this way. I mean really and truly felt this deep, peaceful sense of happiness. I am beyond grateful to those who pushed for me to get back on the anti-depressants since I know those are what helped tip me back to center (depression runs in the family and I finds it nothing to be ashamed of and I am glad to seek help when I need it – sometimes, though, a bit of outside help is needed to fully recognize the issue (also getting on insurance again or getting my butt to the free-clinic, hehe). I digress a bit, since this is suppose to be a wrap-up, not a field-trip into my psyche (fun though that may be, lol). So moving on…

My Score

This is the top and pair of pants that’s I’ve been spazzing out about scoring with my 40% off card plus an addition 40% off clearance at American Eagle. I’ve had my eye on the pants since I am a bit floral pattern happy (I see them as a neutral, but I am crazy like that) but there was no way I was going to spring full price on them and – hooray – patience won the day! The sweater was a total surprise and I’m all cozied up in it right now.

WashiTape

I also made a quick stop into Michaels and I am now the delighted owner of some washi tape – and I think I am now addicted! It’s just so pretty and useful and neat and soooo much fun to play and craft with!

Speaking of crafting and creating, I think I’m going to actually not do the Edward Gorey stitch-a-long. It’s been a difficult decision, but right now I need to give my time and attentions to my projects and if I’m not having to stress out about the stitch-a-long, well it would make it easier (yeah, I stress out easily and for some reason this particular project was really causing a mental and creative road-block for me…sigh).

I’m actually kind of glad to get that off my chest and since that weight feels a bit lifted, I think I might try and find some time today to curl up with “A Treasury of Royal Scandals” (that’s the terribly hilarious and naughty cover art by Peter de Seve ). It’s certainly an overcast, bit of winter white on the ground, cold as heck so might as well curl up with a good book sort of day.

cozytimeHope everyone has a chance to kick back and relax a bit this weekend!

WeekDay Wrap-Up 6: I Love Love

It’s been quite the week filled with laughter, baking, silliness and love. I really enjoyed Valentine’s Day this year – not because I have a boyfriend or anything (’cause I don’t, but whatever) but because I have a wonderful friend and plenty of other people to share the joy and love with. Sure, I don’t need a special day to share that love and joy, but it sure is fun to have a day to celebrate. It’s all those great little things that make it so terrific and I, for one, want to keep on doing those little things to bring smiles and a bit of whimsy to everyone I care about – no matter the time or day. Yes, I want to keep up the happy momentum of this week and to start I’ll share a few of the things I delighted in…

While searching for Valentine’s to print out and glitter-up (you better believe I still have glitter everywhere!) I found this gorgeous fashion Illustration by designer Laura Su. It’s just so beautiful and the color, oh!

Then I got this sent to me as a Valentine – It’s Grumpy Cat and She’s in a heart rain-shower ~ isn’t that the most darling and hilarious thing?! I adore Tardar and think she is quite the little cutie, even with her sweet, grumpy pout!

Aren’t these flocked vintage forget me nots just the most lovely and delicate things? I would love a set of them to display in one of my many ceramic pots, all happiness and Spring-time.

Oh, and How great is this?! I mean, sure it’s totally random since it comes from this cute Etsy Shop, but still, maybe I should run for president…of cute puppies and kitties! Lame, sure, but I’m still giggling, tee-hee! I love it when I get and Etsy e-mail and there is something like this in it – they always make for great inspiration breaks!

Well, that’s it for now ~ Happy Weekend and President’s Day Everyone!

WeekDay Wrap-Up 5: Close and Cozy

What a normal-ish week I’ve had! I mean sure, it’s a bit nuts to think that a normal week is actually so rare that it needs to be commented upon (does that make the craziness the new ‘normal’?!), but there you have it. I actual feel a bit accomplished and I even started and finished the project I mentioned earlier in the week…

d88043bf-360c-4d9f-87ac-bfe930c01937_zps2775c187

This is a tease…

It may have been a small project, but still – Go Me! I’ll be sharing it in more detail very soon. While wandering around Pinterest I found this lovely quote and I have been thinking about sketching out a version of it.

I also fell into complete and utter love with this gorgeous illustration by Julianna Swaney…It’s called Fox Hat and I adore the gal’s expression and the way the fox looks like her hair…sigh, lovely.

Fox Hat by Julianna Swaney

I’ve also been playing around with doing a top-knot in my hair with a small sock-bun (think tiny, child-sized sock). I say small because this has been the end results and I think it would look like my head was being eaten by my hair if I used a bigger one!

FridayWrap-up002_zps16abaa46

Yes, that’s my new favorite shirt – again!

I just like how easy it is and it doesn’t pull or tug at my hair in any uncomfortable way. If I do it damp I end up with crazy, crazy curls, which can be a lot of fun but with the extremely dry air, I’ve just been doing it dry to avoid undue frizz.

In light of this week’s Word Nerd, Balter, I though I’d share a few of the tunes I’ve been enjoying and dancing about to. Well, the Beethoven one is more for relaxing time then dancing time, but you get the idea, lol. My taste in music is a bit oddly eclectic and I rarely fall head-over-heels in love with a particular album or group, but when I do, I just do.

Tumblr’s new format has been driving me a little batty, just because it feels like there are several more steps to take just to post something, but I am slowly getting used to it. I can’t say the same about Photobucket and I think I am about to just give it up all together since the editor (the main thing I used it for) is really lacking for me now, bah. I suppose it’ll all wash over eventually, so I’ll just stay calm and sip some tea.

Oh, and get some reading done – I am thoroughly enthralled with Catherine’s life and just what made her, well, her. I swear this reads almost like a novel ’cause it’s just so good!

Happy Weekend Everyone!

WeekDay Wrap-Up 4: Hello February

It’s a new month – January just where did you go?!? Seriously,I am glad that it’s the start of February, since a new month means new goals, new possibilities and goodness knows what else. January was rather pleasant and while I didn’t exactly accomplish many physical goals, I did do a lot. I started my Edward Gorey Stitch-a-long (though I am dragging my feet a bit at step two – I’m blaming my headaches ’cause that is a lot of tiny lines to transfer to fabric and then start stitching), kept up with my Jane-A-Day (a friend and I exchanged them as gifts and are planning on keeping them up together – so far, so good) and I’ve re-established a nice schedule. As for this week, I’ve been busy co-puppy-sitting this little gal ~

LittleZaz

Her name is Zazzel (Zaz for short) and she is one of the sweetest, marshmallow loving diva’s you’ll ever meet! It’s a bit ironic that my Word Nerd this week was cat related, I know, but I had to appease Jojo somehow since she has been quite lovely about the inconvenience this has caused her.

LatestLove

I was also totally tickled pink when my ModCloth order arrived on Monday (I’ll do a whole post about that later). I have been completely digging this Creature Comforting Top by Brat and Suzie and the Let Down You Chair Necklace. I think I’ve wore both almost everyday in one way or another. The top is just sooooo comfy and the necklace is too perfectly, whimsically charming and makes every outfit that much cuter!

I was a bit surprised at the love this beautiful detail shot of Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring has received, though I have to say that seeing it pop-up on my dash repeatedly has made me want to reread the book by Tracy Chevalier. While not a top favorite of mine, I did find it to be a fairly good read and, even if I found Griet to be a bit, hmm, obtuse at times, She was/is still an interesting character to try and get into the head of.

I think this next month shall find me busy as a bee, as this awesome Cross-Stitch piece I found thrifting illustrates. I can’t wait to find a place for it in my studio and I think that means it’s about studio make-over/clean-up time!

Here’s to February being true to this saying ~ “Life is full made of little happinesses.”

Happy Weekend (and maybe Punxsutawney Phil won’t see his shadow and we’ll have and early Spring!)

Playing Footsie

It’s been yet another hectic start to a new week and it felt like yet another, weird sort of three-day weekend since we were completely without water for all of Saturday.  I’m talking the entire town was dry since, due to the cold and snow, the electricity to the water supply was down. We’re still on a boil water alert and probably will be until tomorrow, but hey, I’m just glad it’s back, It’s one of those little things you use all the time and yet don’t take the time to appreciate until it’s just not there. A perfect lesson if ever there was one, to stop and be thankful for all those everyday sorts of things.

That said, you’re undoubtedly wondering – just what does this have to do with feet or shoes – and I’ll tell you…nothing. I just happened to have these two happy pics of my feet that I figured I’d share since I’m a bit *duh* feeling.

Here I am all cozy, comfy and toasty warm, showing off my favorite slippers (they were a gift and were from American Eagle), cute floral socks and the best pair of legwarmers ever!

These are my Tiptoe Glow Heel from ModCloth and I absolutely adore them to pieces! They remind me of my favorite pair of Jeffery Campbells  and that’s a very, very good thing! Oh, and aren’t those tights something else?!

So there you go, a rather gratuitous blog post about my feet, lol! Here’s to a Happy and Productive week!

Autumn Ambiance

It’s spicy air and moldering ground, it’s sharp contrasts and cracking sounds, Autumn has come, it’s finally here, that last great burst of Nature’s flare. So marvel now, take some time, delight and wonder at the divine…
I am so thrilled to welcome Autumn’s return (I mean, seriously I’m waxing poetic here, tee-hee!)! It’s a bright, glorious day, though perhaps a wee bit more gusty than I like, but still ~ It’s officially Autumn!
May this Autumn be every bit as kind and delightful as can be!
