LaWhimsy Lamb and Cutie Owl

What a Busy Kitty!

Here it is, already the middle of September and Autumn’s official start is but a few days away and I’ve been so busy that I can hardly believe it! September, for me, is not only the beginning of my Autumn schedule – It’s also the celebration of two major birthdays (one of which is the always wonderful Glory’s). That means I have surprises and gifts galore to think up, create, wrap and spring upon the birthday ‘victims’. There are also Festivals to attend, Flea Markets to dig through, the house to decorate for the season and, oh so much more. In light of this, today I’m going to share a few past projects that wanted to introduce themselves…

This sweet lamb is embroidered on both sides in a matching style and along the top of her tiny head. I think that the bright colors I choose add such a charming pop against her white felt body. She is about 4inches long and 2inches high and she was tucked into a stocking last Christmas (yeah, time flies, no?).

In this view of the top of the little lamb’s head you can see a bit of the matching embroidery detail on her sides as well as her sweet head details. I ever so carefully embroidered that teeny-tiny piece before blanket stitching it on. I also did each side before sewing the whole thing together so as to match the sides up as best as I could. They are really spot on and I would show better proof of this had the pics turned out better (shadows can be so cruel).

This little cutie owl is all of 3 inches tall and He has some charming seed stitch and french knot details.  He was also tucked into a stocking as a surprise. The white felt is actually sewn on behind the brown to add some charming dimension and I once again added the embroidery details before blanket stitching him together.

Here they are chilling out together with the phone girl on my craft studio desk. I actually had to borrow them back for these pics, but their owners didn’t mind and Glory even got in on the action…

Great Shoes on the Lamb, no?

Yeah, we have our fun, lol! I hope you enjoyed these two cuties ’cause I have more to share and since one of the birthdays has passed, a few of the gifts I made can be shared without ruining the surprise (Glory, you, however, will have to wait until next week to see your surprises, bwahaha). I even think one of the gifts I made will become a freebie embroidery pattern, so keep an eye out!

Hope you’re all enjoying your day ~ anyone else been getting super creative this month?

The Joy of Reading

Girl Reading by Belafontesbunsa

I absolutely, positively adore reading. Everything about the glorious pastime simply appeals to me. From the sensory experience of feeling the heft of the chose tome in my hands, to the soft whisper of the pages as I turn them, to that particular aroma that comes from the ink and glue and age of the book.

How to Open a Book

It’s a heady experience, reading. It’s especially so when the story being shared is one that can completely transport you away and the sights and sounds of the World around you fade until they seemingly no longer exist and you are one with the story, characters and the World they belong to. To read is to move beyond yourself yet in yourself at the same time. The characters in my favorite books have become like dear, old friends whom I can visit again and again and in their stories and tales I find new insights and viewpoints each time I reread.

Reading is an escape, an adventure, a lesson and so much more and the books, themselves, are friends and I love how much they add to my living space and to my mental space.

I’m off to revisit a few old ‘friends’ -Happy Reading Everyone!

…and so ends the week

It’s one of those bizarre, otherworldly sorts of days when up is down and down is sideways and front is way over there somewhere. The weather is screwy, I’m feeling a more than blah (breakfast did not agree with me and that’s all I’ll say about that) and even the animals are acting a bit odd (okay, so I need to feed them but that’s no reason for all three cats to be staring at me and meowing like food hasn’t graced their mouths in weeks, geesh). Anyway, I am hoping that a nap will restore my body and even then I think I shall simply dance the day away in my sort of dreamy, wandering style. Here’s to the weekend!

Spootacular

Ah, Halloween you spooky, kooky day. It’s not that I dislike Halloween, it’s just that it’s not my most favorite of holidays. Perhaps it has something to do with the infamous incident with the “Uglies” back when I was but a wee thing (uglies being my term then for the ugly rubber costume masks and the incident, well, when I was about 3 (and a highly sensitive 3 at that) my Father scared me witless about how they come to life when the stores close and since my Mother was in a closing store as he told me I lost it and ended that night in a fit of hysterics the likes of which have never been matched and left me leery of the Halloween season ever since, though I did find the humor in it eventually, sort of). Or perhaps my love of Thanksgiving and Yule just overshadow this celebration and I would much rather get to sparkles and holiday warmth instead of grim and gore. Whatever the case may be, I still celebrate and still enjoy the season and day, but my heart is usually being sung to by a merrier promise of what’s to come and I do get so impatient for it that I sometimes forget to stop and just enjoy the costume play for what it is. With that in mind I am going to focus on the day at hand and celebrate in a spooktacular fashion! Happy Halloween Everyone! ~ Ella

Being You

Pillow Talk

So here’s a lovely project that I made up about two Yuletides ago now. I took an old shirt that I found in a rummage sale bin and simply sewed around the great image of Debbi Harry and then stuffed it. The end result is super soft and about 21″ by 13″.

Here she is well settled in her home (on a twenty dollar flea market score of a chair – it’s a lazy-boy and it is the best color!).

This is just a fun shot of her on a “vertical ballet bar” (tee-hee!) and the background is actually the back of the blanket I made to go with the pillow as part of a cuddly gift (I’ll share it in a future post).

Color My World

Please color my world, make it so bright, fill up my mind all sorts of delight. Take me to rainbows the entire world over, enchant me with splendors I’ve yet to encounter. Repaint my soul, again and again, and never once let conformity set in. ~ Ella
