• Hello and Welcome! I’m Ella and I’m something of an artistic, creative, curious and fanciful spirit. I love vintage doodads, cuddly animals, pink squirrels, embroidery, soft sculpture, stuffies, books, words, history, tacky tourist sites and a ton of other random, quirky things that make up my world.

One of Those Weeks…

You know those kinds of weeks, the kind that seem to wring you out and leave you exhausted and glad to see Friday night. This was one of those weeks, though really, it’s not that it was a bad week, per say, it was simply something of a taxing one. I suppose the speeding energy of, what I felt was, a rather ugly election (did we seriously need all of that negative bashing and over-the-top mudslinging? Really?!?) as it built to it’s climax didn’t help the atmosphere any. Nor did a few of the personal issues I was having (that, happily enough, are well on the road to good outcomes) or the fact that I kept on stabbing my fingers with things (sure, I’m a klutz, but come on!).

All I know for sure is that I am beyond glad that this week is over, the weekend is here and soon a new week shall be beginning! I’m ready to collapse in a cozy heap and recharge my spirits, mind and body with some movies, gummi and sour treats and plenty of popcorn and laughs!

Here’s to the weekend!

Love is Stitchy

The February Stitchalong over on Feeling Stitchy was a really darling one and I was super excited to, well, stitchalong. I figured it would be a fun and easy little project and I was half right – it was fun. The easy part, not so much. Seriously, it was a somewhat hilarious trial of errors on my part to make this. First I needed wire, which while I do have quite a bit of wire (jewelry mostly) I was after a particular pink spool of it that I just knew I had. After several trips to and from various parts of the house and a rather unnecessary ruckus in my Craft Studio closet (I say it was perfectly justified, thankyouverymuch. harumph!) I managed to locate the sought after wire. Then it was on to what embroidery floss I was going to use – easy, peasy, right? Wrong-o. The color I wanted was in a tangled, knotted mess, due, no doubt, to the very darling and rather mischievous Elves that I swear in habit my creative space (Accidentally dropping a skein of floss into the bottom of my project bag should not lead to it’s tangled ruin…sigh). It took me forever to untangle and neatly wrap the mess up. Once that was done I was set to stitch (and, mind you, all of this was done in fits and starts over the course of a few weeks since I was doing this in little bits of free-time in-between other things). I actually found the tacking of the wire difficult at first since the dang thing kept trying to move about but once I got it wrestled into place all was well. I then, somewhat messily, got it glued onto it’s backing piece (Thank heavens for neat pieces of felt to cover a multitude of odd ends and glue messes!). I was all set to take a photo and get it up when *bam* February was gone and March had started – doh!

So anyway, here is my better-late-than-never contribution to the February Stitchalong. I rather like it and I am so going to display it somewhere as a happy little reminder that even the seemingly simple things can be deceiving but more than worth it, if only for the story, tee-hee!

…and so ends the week

It’s one of those bizarre, otherworldly sorts of days when up is down and down is sideways and front is way over there somewhere. The weather is screwy, I’m feeling a more than blah (breakfast did not agree with me and that’s all I’ll say about that) and even the animals are acting a bit odd (okay, so I need to feed them but that’s no reason for all three cats to be staring at me and meowing like food hasn’t graced their mouths in weeks, geesh). Anyway, I am hoping that a nap will restore my body and even then I think I shall simply dance the day away in my sort of dreamy, wandering style. Here’s to the weekend!

Change is Good…Right?

So here I am, not exactly delighted with how this blog is set-up and yet utterly overwhelmed at just how to go about changing things to suit my style and what I’m all about. Add to this the fact that the heat and humidity are causing me to wilt rapidly (and with no AC in this lovely, old home there has been little relief) and I’ve been kept from my sewing machine since January due to lack of space and then due to the ‘explosion’ of all my supplies in my new studio – yikes! I think I’m going to have a melt down – figuratively and literally!

If I step back and take a moment to breath things really aren’t all that dire – I’m just letting the season get to me a little more than usual. Here’s to a pitcher of fresh iced tea, a large umbrella, a slip n slid and a wee bit of relaxation and peace!
